BlackBerry Bold 9900 Video Review

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 is the GSM version of the CDMA network BlackBerry Bold 9930 on Verizon and Sprint. Beyond the cell radio inside and carrier branding, the phones are identical.

T-Mobile’s version of RIM’s latest QWERTY flagship phone has 4G HSPA+, and you can really feel the difference vs. 3G on the Verizon and Sprint versions. Web pages download faster as do email attachments and applications, though App World remains mysteriously slower at download compared to its iOS and Android counterparts. Reception is excellent as is call quality: RIM knows how to make a phone that works well for voice calls. Read more

AT&T BlackBerry Bold 9900 Update: Still waiting on an official release date…

Anybody who dare think or say that the passion for BlackBerry is waning need not look further than the reader comments on our Petition to AT&T to Release the BlackBerry Bold 9900. AT&T… you seriously need to read them. It’s clear that AT&T CUSTOMERS WANT THEIR BLACKBERRY BOLD 9900s and by not having it released you are losing out!!

On this week’s CrackBerry Podcast, we discussed the petition and half-seriously/half-jokingly decided that September 17th would be the day we take to the streets and do some good ‘ole fashioned smartphone picketing to bring more real-world attention to our cause if we hadn’t received a received word on a release date by then. That’s all we’re looking for AT&T, just a little better communication about the BlackBerry Bold 9900. Better than a release date we’d like to see it released SOON of course, but I think a lot of us would be happier right now if we just knew when it would become available.

I’m still struggling with a reason of why it hasn’t been released seeing as Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile are all selling the 9930/9900, but at this point I don’t even care. The most likely reasoning is actually a positive one — that AT&T is pushing their exclusive of the Torch 9810 for only $49.99, which is a GREAT DEAL (so thank you for that AT&T). I know quite a few Torch 9800 owners now who have gone ahead and upgraded to the 9810 because of this deal and they’re loving it. But I just hate seeing people jonesing for a new BlackBerry any longer than they need to, and I think to a lot of people the Bold 9900 is distinctly different than the Torch 9810.

In the meantime, the petition is still going strong at the link below (and by leaving a petition comment you’ll be entered to win an AT&T BlackBerry Bold 9900 when it gets released) so be sure to jump over to the petition and have your voice heard.

Walmart is discounting the T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9900 to $119.99 for new lines

Call them crazy or whatever you want, but there’s no denying that T-Mobile must be making a bold move by pricing their BlackBerry Bold 9900 at $299.99 on-contract. Easily $100 more than some other top-notch smartphones like the T-Mobile myTouch 4G and HTC Sensation 4G, some might be easily turned away from such a hefty price.

Thankfully, Walmart appears to be saving the day as they’re discounting the handset heavily to bring its pricing down to a more suitable position. Specifically, they’re only asking new customers to shell out $119.99 with a 2-year contract, which is something much more fitting for this kind of handset.

Strangely, it boggles our mind to find that upgrade customers will need to pay considerably more at $319.99 a pop to pick up the handset. Meaning, you’re better off going off with T-Mobile if you’re looking to upgrade your line.

Nevertheless, at least its pricing for new customers is far superior to what T-Mobile is asking for – so if you’re interested, you’d better flock on over to Walmart’s web site to pick one up.

T-Mobile’s BlackBerry Bold 9900 coming August 31st?

We’ve heard dates aplenty for the T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9900 already but one thing has remained true — the month will be August. A new leak is pegging the date for August 31st to be more precise, and along with that leak is the fact that T-Mobile stores are now also putting out some promo material for the device.

T-Mobile was among the first carriers to confirm release of the BackBerry Bold 9900 when it was first announced, so when ready — we’re pretty sure they will go pretty hard at promoting the device. Judging from the info, customers will also get a $50 MIR when you opt in for a $20+ data plan.

SaskTel confirms they will be carrying the BlackBerry Bold 9900, leaves out release date

The list of carriers confirming they’ll be carrying the BlackBerry Bold 99xx series continues to grow. This time around, SaskTel has confirmed they’ll be making the device available to their customers in the near future. This of course, jives with the release of the BlackBerry Bold 9900 on Bell considering they share most of the same device line-up.

We’re still looking at that August release date for Bell and have not been given any reason to think otherwise as of yet so the SaskTel version should arrive around the same time. Odd, how many will conform the inevitable release yet we’re still waiting.

BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry Torch 9860 spotted on the streets of Toronto

Quite honestly, we don’t really have a lot to say about this image. Since it came to us over the CrackBerry Twitter account and it was so beautiful we thought it fitting enough to go ahead and toss it up for everyone to enjoy.

What you see above is both a BlackBerry Bold 9900 and what is presumed to be a BlackBerry Torch 9860, in other words the GSM variation of the Torch 9850 that’s set to head to Sprint. Both are shown running on Telus but sadly that’s where the joy ends. Still no official device dates for either device as of yet, in fact the 9850/60 still remains unannounced unless you consider the release of the device simulator an official announcement.
